Abstract:

Hybrid quantum systems can be considered to form interfaces between distinct forms of quantum matter and electromagnetic fields, which open unprecedented possibilities for coupling different degrees of freedom to realize novel ways of quantum state control. Specific hybrid setups include ultracold atomic and molecular gases close to mesoscopic surface structures, e.g. atomic chips, nanomechanical and nanoelectrical devices, interacting with optical / microwave cavities or thermal baths. Central common goals are the steering and engineering of quantum transport and correlations (e.g. entanglement). Our symposium brings together people from different scientific fields, ranging from condensed matter physics, quantum chemistry, applied mathematics, quantum and atom optics to quantum information science. The exchange of ideas and concepts during the symposium opens a wide range of perspectives for the necessary advance in the theoretical description of complex quantum systems as well as for the design of novel schemes of quantum control, both for application in fundamental research and for the future development of new devices and technology.
